Local

SEPTA - (215) 580-7800 (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) has a variety of options including subway, trolley and bus service throughout the city and area. The Market-Frankford subway line stops one block from the Museum at 5th and Market streets. After exiting the station, cross Market Street and walk north toward Arch Street. Halfway down the block is the Museum’s brick walkway. Make a right and the lobby of the Museum will be on the left, at the center of the walkway.

PHLASH

May 1 through October 31, 2008The Phlash Downtown Visitor Shuttle provides direct service between Penn's Landing, Center City, and the Museum. Operated several months out of the year by the Philadelphia Trolley Works, the Phlash uses distinctive purple trolleys and runs every twelve minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Out of Town

PATCO - (856) 772-6900 or (215) 922-4600 High Speed Line(Port Authority Transit Corporation).The Speed Line travels from South Jersey into Center City Philadelphia. PATCO has four Center City stops, the closest to the Museum being at 8th and Market Streets.

Amtrak - 1-800-USA-RAILprovides service to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station at 30th and Market Streets. Visitors can connect with the Market-Frankford Line at 30th Street Station.

Driving Directions

From the North

There are three options: the New Jersey Turnpike via the Benjamin Franklin or Betsy Ross bridges via the New Jersey Turnpike and I-95:

Betsy Ross Bridge via the New Jersey Turnpike:Take the N.J. Turnpike to Exit 4. Take Route 73 North to Route 90 (Betsy Ross Bridge). Take the Betsy Ross Bridge into Philadelphia. Follow signs for I-95 South (Center City). Take I-95 South. Follow the signs for "Central Phila./I-676" (Exit 22). Follow signs for Philadelphia /Independence Hall/Callowhill Street. Make a right at the light, which is Callowhill Street. Turn left onto North 4th Street. The Museum is located just past the second traffic light on your right (immediately past the Holiday Inn) down a brick walkway.

Benjamin Franklin Bridge via the New Jersey Turnpike:Take the N.J. Turnpike to Exit 4. Take Route 73 North to Route 38 West to US 30. Take US 30 west over the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, and at the bottom of the bridge make a sharp right hand U-turn. The first street will be 4th Street. Turn right onto 4th Street. The Museum is located just past the second light on your right (immediately past the Holiday Inn) down a brick walkway.

I-95 South:Take I-95 South. Follow the signs for "Central Phila./I-676" (Exit 22). Stay to your right. Follow signs for Philadelphia/Independence Hall/Callowhill streets. Make a right at the light, which is Callowhill Street. Turn left onto North 4th Street. The Museum is located just past the second traffic light on your right (immediately past the Holiday Inn) down a brick walkway..

From the South

I-95 North:Follow the signs for "Central Phila./I-676" (Exit 22). Follow signs for Philadelphia/Independence Hall/Callowhill Streets. Keep right at the fork in the ramp. Stay straight to Callowhill Street. Turn left onto North 4th Street. The Museum is located just past the second traffic light on your right (immediately past the Holiday Inn) down a brick walkway.

From the West

Take I-76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) to the Valley Forge Exit (Exit 326):Follow signs to Philadelphia I-76 East. Remain on I-76 East for about 25 miles until you see signs for Central Philadelphia (Exit 344) Continue on 676 East to the 8th Street Exit. Make a right onto 8th Street. The Second traffic light is Race Street-turn left. Go four traffic lights to 4th Street and turn right. The Museum is located past the first traffic light on your right (immediately past the Holiday Inn) down a brick walkway. Paid parking is available at the Holiday Inn.

From the East

Atlantic City Expressway to 42 North: Follow 42 North to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge (Rt. 676), which crosses into Philadelphia. At the bottom of the bridge make a sharp right hand U-turn. The first street will be 4th Street. Turn right on to North 4th Street. The Museum is located just past the second light on your right (immediately past the Holiday Inn) down a brick walkway.
