Sidney prepared this map for his new bride, Clara, in 1943. It was rumored that he would be shipped to Europe. He thought it might be Italy, but wasn't sure. All mail from soldiers was censored by the military; Sidney wouldn't be able to tell Clara where he was. So he made a map for her and one for himself. His plan was to write, "I went outside for a walk and I saw…" and then write a number coinciding with a number on the maps. This was their private code.
