This building was used by the first
congregation in Gloversville, NY, 35 minutes northwest of Albany. Incorporated
as an Orthodox congregation in 1891, this building was finished in 1906.
Used by many Jewish organizations to help settle new immigrants, the congregation
was renamed Keneseth Israel in 1918. At that time, the congregation relocated
to a larger building on the same block. This synagogue was then donated to
the city of Gloversville. In 1963 it was decided the building was too costly
to maintain. Today, this lot is a popular basketball court named "The Cage."
