Ohef Shalom synagogue was dedicated
May 22, 1902. Illuminated by one hundred twenty-five electric lights, this
building was designed by architect John Kevan Peebles in an Italian renaissance
style. Peebles is also responsible for designing many municipal buildings
in Norfolk. Unfortunately, a severe ice storm in February 1916 caused a devastating
electrical fire, destroying the building. The Reform congregation holds services
in its current building, finished in 1918. For more information, you can
email visit their Archives: www.ohefsholom.org.
