Conservative Congregation Adath
Israel was incorporated in March 1911, the second largest Jewish community
in Vermont. The Rutland Jewish Center seen here was purchased in 1927. Built
in 1870, this structure was originally the Baxter Memorial Library, designed
by Leopold Eidlitz, architect of Temple Emanuel in New York. The Rutland
Jewish Center is still home to an active congregation, meeting in the Center
to which a social hall has since been added.
